with your achievements, your happiness 
never made him 
send troops to your border 
never forced 
his hand, his tanks, his soft ego 
to cross that line 

bullies in charge 
tell you 
you did it—
you asked for it—
you made them—but you 
 
know this is a lie 
a Freudian slip of weakness 
a thread to pull 

to begin unraveling 
the rotten fabric
